The Intel Malaysia Story

Gordon E. Moore of "Moore's Law" fame, a chemist and physicist, Robert Noyce, a co-inventor of the integrated circuit, Arthur Rock, a venture financier, and Max Palevsky formed Intel in Mountain View, California in 1968. Moore and Noyce, the first two workers of Intel, came from Fairchild Semiconductor. Rock was the executive chairman and an investor rather than a worker. $10,000 from Rock and $2.5 million in convertible debentures made up the initial investment in Intel. The first public offering (IPO) of Intel was completed just two years later, raising $6.8 million ($23.50 per share). Chemical engineer Andy Grove joined Intel as its third employee. Grove went on to lead the firm for the majority of the 1980s and the period of rapid expansion in the 1990s.
