The Arup Story

Sir Ove Arup established the business in London in 1946 under the name Ove N. Arup Consulting Engineers. As the business expanded, Arup eschewed the strategy of its competitors, which is to acquire other businesses; instead, it pursued organic expansion, setting up new offices in places where there was potential for business. Partnering with the architect Philip Dowson, a new part of the business called Arup Associates was established in 1963. Arup has been pushing the limits of what engineering and design are capable of since 1946. A more creative and flexible perspective on engineering would result in work of higher quality and longer-lasting relevance, according to Arup's founder. The organization Sir Ove left behind is still known for coming up with courageously original answers to some of the most difficult problems. Arup has been a venue for creative people to hone their skills, work with others who share their interests, and create amazing work for more than 75 years.
